One time winner of Oscar awards Titanic in 1997, James Cameron has a lot to brag about. Several of his films became classics such as the first two installments of Terminator and he has three films among the highest grossers in history, not counting inflation. With the release of The Way of Water, who wins in terms of revenue? Avatar 2 vs Titanic vs Avatar 1 battle.
So far, Avatar (2009), is the highest-grossing film with more than 2.92 billion dollars. Titanic (from 1997) is third with almost 2.2 billion. But this Monday, January 16, Avatar 2 exceeded 1.9 billion. Can it beat Titanic and the first installment of Avatar?
If it keeps up this revenue pace, Avatar 2: The Way of Water will surely surpass Titanic by the 2023 deadline, or even sooner. Now, beating Avatar will be a more difficult task and it will all depend on how long it can hold on to the top spots and how it affects the upcoming releases, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which will debut in February 2023 and will be the first film in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
If there’s anything clear, it’s that in this personal battle of Cameron between Avatar 2 versus Titanic versus Avatar 1, it doesn’t matter what position each one occupies. It has already secured 3 films among the 5 highest-grossing films in history with Avengers: Endgame stealing a bit of the spotlight.

This will change in the coming days, with Avatar 2 placing itself, at least, in third position and moving to Titanic. How much more will it go up? With James Cameron, anything is possible.
