After Discovery Communications bought Warner Bros., it intervened many times, one of which was quickly cleared. The executives announced that in 2023 they would unite the platforms of HBO Max (from Warner Bros.) and Discovery Plus in a single application. What will his name be? Max.
The company’s managers are close to formalizing this new name for the service streaming which will be released before the middle of the year.
If the decision is still not being made, Max would seem to be the most likely option, although this does not mean losing to the HBO brand. The idea is that the unified application works in a tiling fashion, as HBO Max currently does, where you can see all the brands (channels) for which subscribers can watch content.
There will be one from HBO, another from DC, Warner Bros., CN and, of course, those from Discovery Plus. Also on the horizon is Discovery reality shows, CNN news documentaries and more programming for the home. It clearly won’t be the HBO Max we currently know.
While it was expected that the new application would be launched in the middle of the year, the planes are coming ahead of time and could possibly be finalized between March and April, without having to make new changes.
For now, it is also not known how the subscription price will be modified, especially in Latin America where HBO Max has a promotional value, to accommodate regional economies. And, surely, as happened with other platforms, the deployment will be done by countries and regions.
The new Warner Bros. Discovery also has plans to revamp its movie strategy, including those in the DC universe, though it’s not clear how it will do that.
