A ghost is loose in the house is one of the most popular and anticipated premieres for this weekend netflix. A family horror comedy, very light that has the actors as a claim David Harbour (Stranger Things) i Anthony Mackie (Falcon at the mcu).

I must first say that I was waiting for this film since its production was announced, since the director, Christopher Landonit seems to me that, without inventing much, he had managed in his previous works to give a breath of fresh air to the horror comedy genre. Zombie Camp (2015), Happy Death Day (2017), Happy Death Day 2 (2019) and This Body Feels Dead (2020) they were nothing more than updates of fairly tame plots such as zombies, groundhog day or “body swaps» (exchange of bodies). However, I think he managed to make an extra spin on these themes by making quite funny films, the main goal of any light comedy.
However, this one A ghost is loose in the house, has let me down. Again he has taken an argument that has been seen many times over, that of a friendly ghost and buffoon who needs to be helped to overcome his trauma, so that he can stop being stuck in a plane to which he does not belong.
The film has several problems in my view. The first is excessive length. Damn decision, too frequent in recent times, to extend footage so that it can be released directly on a streaming platform. It seems that since a movie theater is not used, you can have a wide sleeve to extend the length of the films. No, please, that’s enough, stop doing this. A horror comedy should not exceed 90 minutes… I am speaking in general terms, there may be products that have more material to develop and a longer duration is necessary. It is not the case.
The second big problem I see is that of the performances. I think the only thing that is really good, I would almost say in his sauce, is Anthony Mackie. The rest seem continually out of place. Even David Harbourwho seems to me a good actor, I found it ridiculous, except for some action scenes which are the only ones that also work humorously.
The third problem is the script. It seems done without imagination. Only clippings from previous ones. No personality of its own. And that last thing is what I think he was doing Christopher Landon stood out a little from the rest. The film becomes repetitive and only the final stretch lets us escape from this constant repetition. The only element that updates the theme a bit is the incorporation of social networks into the plot.
