PACTS for your heart, not for cardiovascular disease

Arterial pressure; food; cholesterol and pollution; smoking; obesity; sedentary lifestyle and emotional health, main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and words whose first letters make up the term PACTES. “PACTES pel teu cor” is the motto of the campaign that the Spanish Heart Foundation (FEC) and the Spanish Heart Society (SEC) are launching on the occasion of World Heart Day.

The purpose they have marked so much SEC like the FEC with “PACTS for your heart” this Heart Week is to make the population aware of the high risk that cardiovascular diseases pose.

According to the latest data from National Institute of Statistics (INE) in 2020, nearly 120,000 people died because of this type of pathology.

COVENANTS for your heart” is an awareness and prevention campaign that seeks to reduce the numbers of people affected by heart disease in Spain and that takes center stage in World Heart Dayon September 29.

According to the doctor Andrés Íñiguez Romo, president of the FEC“cardiovascular diseases can be prevented in up to 80% of cases by following healthy lifestyle habits”.

The word AGREEMENTSthe name of the campaign refers to each initial of the main cardiovascular risk factors.

“The idea is for each person to make a pact for their heart, committing to cardiovascular health, controlling risk factors and giving them the importance they really deserve,” explains the cardiologist.

Objective of the campaign

The campaign aims to warn of the importance of cardiovascular diseases, which with 18.6 million of annual deaths, according to the World Heart Federationsuppose already first cause of death in the world and also in Spain.

It also highlights the importance of paying attention to all these risk factors, with the aim of preventing and reducing these anomalies.

The campaign includes an exhibition made up of 20 illustrations and 8 sculptures in which the heart is the protagonist, which can be visited at the Official Medical College of Madrid until December 30.

Week of the Heart

The Week of the Heartwhich ends on October 1, hosts different activities such as dthirteenth edition of the traditional Popular Heart Race.

Cardiovascular risk assessment

One of the activities that have been done is the cardiovascular risk assessment which will be carried out by the SEC and the FEC with the collaboration of Novartis i Roche in the Congress of Deputies.

The tests have been carried out on politicians, journalists and staff of the Lower House allowing to know their cardiovascular risk over a period of ten years.

The study is based on data such as age, sex, whether a person is a smoker or not, systolic blood pressure and cholesterol values ​​will be measured, and basic anthropometric measurements will be calculated.

Once the results are available, via a QR code and by email, they receive a report with the values ​​obtained and specific health recommendations in each case. The results will be expressed by a traffic light: green (low risk), yellow (intermediate risk) and red (high risk).
