The so-called Foundation Series began with an original trilogy, which was then followed by two sequels and two prequels, which allowed it to be joined to the Robot Series, another of the many books written by Asimov.

A bit of history

The original trilogy of novels compiled a series of eight short stories published in the Stounding Magazine between May 1942 and January 1950. According to Isaac Asimov, the premise was based on the ideas of the History of the Decadence and Fall of the Empire Romano, and spontaneously invented on his way to meet with editor John W. Campbell, with whom he left the concepts of the collapse of the Galactic Empire (something that will surely sound familiar to fans of the Galaxy Wars).
