In this same line, the doctor Enrique Otero, coordinator of the Prevention Committee of the Spanish Heart Foundation (FEC)in an interview with EFEsalut, he emphasizes the importance of checking cholesterol levels in the blood, especially people with a family history and, generally, from the age of forty.

As for control and follow-up, the specialist explains that if our cholesterol levels are normal, a test every six months or even a year is enough.

Good cholesterol and bad cholesterol What are they for?

The expert clarifies that there are two types of lipoproteins: the good cholesterol (HDL) and the bad cholesterol (LDL).

“The bad cholesterol it is what has the ability to deposit in the coronary arteries or in any type of artery and cause it to narrow. Thus, trauma can occur and lead to death”, he explains to EFEsalut.
