On the occasion of World Cancer Day, February 4, the Spanish Association against Cancer (AECC) launches the #TodosContraElCáncer campaign to reach 70 percent survival by 2030
Cancer will affect one in two men and one in three women in their lifetime; this campaign aims for survival to reach 70 percent by 2030.
The AECC launches this awareness campaign calling on economic, social and political agents to join the commitment to advance prevention, early diagnosis and research and to ensure that 7 out of 10 people with cancer survive the disease by 2030 and increase the survival
According to data from the period 2008-2013 offered by the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) at the presentation of its annual report 2023, yesterday Monday. the five-year net survival from diagnosis in men is 55.3%, and in women 61.7%.
The big problem of cancer
Cancer is the most important socio-health problem in the world and it is estimated that by 2030 there will be 21.6 million new cases.
In Spain, it is expected that there will be more than 330,000 new cases of cancer by 2030, with a diagnosis every 1.8 minutes.
This means that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will have this disease throughout their lives, according to data from the Cancer Observatory.
The message of this campaign states: “You can’t choose between mom or dad. Cancer yes. Choose #TodosContraelCáncer to achieve 70% survival”, with the aim of drawing attention to this disease and involving the largest number of people, translating its incidence figures to a more personal perspective”.
This message has been deployed on large-format screens in different places in Madrid.
The campaign will be presented at an institutional event and the messages will be amplified during manifesto readings by patients that will take place on February 4, World Cancer Day, in activations in the streets of Madrid and Barcelona.
As he explained Yolanda Domínguez Vega, Director of Marketing and Communication of the Association, “the campaign reflects that there is no other choice than to unite #TodosContraElCáncer, because when this disease will touch us all, we must be united”.
“It is a call with which we want to appeal to society as a whole to create a movement, since only with a great pact, in which all people, companies, entities, institutions, public administration and political parties are committed, will we be able to achieve the goal of 70% survival”has added
In the words of Ángel Gomez, cancer patient, “we are in time to prevent thousands of people from getting cancer and to ensure that 7 out of 10 survive, from prevention and research, but also by all contributing, whatever our plot. Individuals, companies, political parties, associations or administrations: it’s time to act together and act against cancer”.
All Against Cancer, Event of Exceptional Public Interest: Goal, increase cancer survival
The campaign is part of the All Against Cancer initiative, led by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, which has been declared by the Government of Spain an Event of Exceptional Public Interest (AEIP), and which aims to create a social movement to involve people, companies and institutions around the fight against cancer.
